Employees come and go. This is just a fact of life in the business world. Most of the time, you can trust your employees, even when they make a mistake. However, the same cannot be said of outsiders, who may be scheming to find ways to break into your business or otherwise accost or harass your employees before they can get back inside the access control system you set up to protect them.
Reduces Lost Keys
Losing a key is always a frustrating experience. But it can quickly go from annoyance to terror when that key is supposed to provide access to sensitive materials or equipment at your workplace. Access control systems can decrease the incidence of this problem simply because your employees no longer have to carry around a metal key that fits into a lock, and that can be easily misplaced. Creating additional copies of any key can also become a potential security flaw. While it is true that key cards and keyfobs can still go missing or be the target of theft, at the very least, those items can be reprogrammed. A key either fits or doesn’t, depending on the lock it is cut to open.
More Control Over Employee Access
Whenever an employee leaves, must business owners hope to expedite their departure but ensure that the split is amicable. Not every employee leaves in good standing, though. By installing a new access control system, you can remove the departed employee from the list of authorized users. Shutting down email accounts that have become obsolete is a normal part of the process when it comes to welcoming new hires and making more room on the server, so hesitating to do this will only become more of a hindrance than you might expect at first.
Track Visitor Movement
With access control systems, you can also keep tabs on all visitors. Since you can see who is coming and going, it provides another incentive to continue upgrading your company’s security suite. There’s typically a reason why you would need such a system, and agreeing to install one isn’t a decision that is often taken lightly. ID numbers and time stamps can help you track visitor movement, especially if access credentials need to be revoked, even temporarily. Photos can also be included on these cards to make them even more secure.
